Eleven members showed their work at this year’s exhibition – on terrestrial subjects, the Moon, the Sun, Aurora, a few planets, galaxies and nebulae. There was quite a bit of emphasis on solar images, partly because of the peak of the Sun’s activity during 2024/5 and partly because of the Partial Solar Eclipse on 29th March 2025. Another development has been the introduction of the Seestar Smart Telescope – the Society now owns one for use by its members, and five other members also have their own instruments. Astroimaging is now much easier and we look forward to other members wishing to dip their toes into this exciting hobby.
In previous years we have combined the images with astronomical history, some music and even some poetry. This year no poetry – but we did have a quiz! And the concluding video of last year’s Perseids Picnic, set to a specially composed piece of music, was a particular highlight of the show. The icing on the cake was that our President, Professor Bob Lambourne, was also able to join us.
Another successful evening – our 11th Astroimaging Exhibition – and a fine testament to the imaging endeavours of our Society.
