Solar Observing and preparing for Transit of Mercury on 9th May

Time & Location

05 May 2016, 20:00

Woodrow High House, Cherry Ln, Woodrow, Amersham HP7 0QG, UK

About the Event

We shall be covering how to (and not how to) observe the Sun. We’ll look at different types of filters for solar viewing and at telescopes specially designed for solar viewing. It’s been ten years since the last transit of Mercury so we shall also be discussing this little planet and how and when to observe the transit on 9th May. For anyone doing the WAS-50 project, this is probably the easiest opportunity you’ll have to observe the hardest object in the project. And of course we shall have our regular slots for Rowland Objects, Images and Books of the month.
