Venus is the 2nd planet from the Sun and is very hot. Hotter than Mercury despite being further than Mercury from the Sun, and is about the same size as Earth. It was named after the Roman goddess of love and beauty and is Earth's "Sister Planet", as it is similar in size.

The Russians sent 4 space problems to Venus between 1961 and 1984 to gather information about the planet Venus. This program of missions was known as the Venera (Russian: Вене́ра, pronounced [vʲɪˈnʲɛrə], which means "Venus" in Russian).
